Drive Smart, Stay Safe – Towards a Safer Delhi! Delhi Traffic Police Expands Road Safety Awareness Across the Capital

In a steadfast commitment to building safer roads and encouraging responsible driving behavior, the Delhi Traffic Police, under the leadership of Shri Satya Vir Katara, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic Headquarters), has launched a series of extensive Road Safety Awareness Programmes across Delhi. These initiatives engaged a wide spectrum of citizens — including students, cyclists, auto/taxi drivers, public transport staff, and daily commuters — with a focus on traffic rule compliance, women’s safety, and the importance of disciplined road usage.

 

 

Helmet Awareness Drive: Safety First, Every Ride

To address the growing risks faced by two-wheeler riders, a dedicated Helmet Safety Drive was conducted at prominent locations such as C-Block Tahirpur, Ashram Chowk, Alipur G.T. Road, and Madipur Red Light, Delhi. Nearly 2,170 road users, including riders and pillion passengers, were sensitized about the dangers of riding without helmets. The campaign highlighted that helmet use is not merely a legal requirement but a life-saving responsibility that prevents fatal head injuries and protects lives.

 

Inspiring Young Minds: Road Safety Awareness in Schools

A major highlight of the campaign was its dedicated outreach to school students. The Delhi Traffic Police organized interactive awareness sessions with ME Van displays in the following schools:Govt. Co-ed Sr. Sec. School, A-Block Metro Vihar,Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya No. 1, C-Block Yamuna Vihar (02 sessions),G.B.S.S. School, Janta Flat Nand Nagri,S.K.V. No. 2, Punjabi Bagh,Guru Nanak Public School, Punjabi Bagh,MCP Co-ed School, A-Block Metro Vihar,MCP Co-ed School, Holambi Khurd More than 3,200 students and 80 teachers actively participated in activities including demonstrations, group discussions, and a Road Safety Quiz Competition. The students enthusiastically asked questions, shared their perspectives, and displayed impressive knowledge of safe road behavior, reinforcing the belief that discipline on roads should begin at an early age.

 

Training Public Transport Drivers: Safety on Every Journey

Acknowledging the crucial role of public transport drivers, the Delhi Traffic Police organized specialized training sessions for DTC and Cluster Bus drivers at Dwarka Sector-8 and Sukhdev Vihar Depots.In three structured sessions, 93 DTC drivers and 2 officers were trained on critical aspects of road safety, including safe braking techniques, pedestrian protection, compliance with traffic laws, and courteous behavior towards passengers. The initiative seeks to reduce accidents and ensure that the thousands of citizens who rely on public transport every day travel safely.

 

Awareness for Auto, Taxi & E-Rickshaw Drivers: Discipline on Wheels

An awareness session for auto, taxi, and e-rickshaw drivers was conducted at Ashram Chowk Metro Station, where 30 drivers were sensitized about following traffic rules such as maintaining lane discipline, respecting speed limits, stopping at designated stop lines, ensuring women’s safety, and showing courtesy towards passengers. The campaign emphasized that their everyday discipline plays a crucial role in preventing accidents and earning the trust of commuters.

 

Road Safety Programme at Jamia University: Engaging the Youth

 

A special Road Safety Awareness Programme was also organized at Jamia Millia Islamia University, where 120 students participated. The sessions included:Road Safety Awareness discussions,Demonstrations on CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation),Awareness about RLVD (Red Light Violation Detection) and OSVD (Over Speed Violation Detection) cameras.The session was conducted by Insp. Abhishek, who shared valuable insights on modern road safety enforcement methods. Additionally, students spread awareness through Nukkad Natak (street plays), creatively delivering the message of safe and responsible road usage to their peers.

 

Senior officers, including Special CP Traffic Shri Ajay Chaudhary, Shri Satya Vir Katara, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic Headquarters), DCP HQ-I Traffic Shri Shashank Jaiswal, and DCP HQ-II Traffic Shri S.K. Singh, appreciated the efforts of the Road Safety Cell in successfully conducting these initiatives. They emphasized that such campaigns are crucial for instilling discipline, fostering safer driving habits, and ensuring better compliance with traffic regulations across Delhi.
