New Delhi: Mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh, has blamed the corruption and autocratic functioning within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the formation of a new party by 15 of its councillors. He stated that during the 2022 municipal elections, AAP misled the public with ten false promises, which led to their victory and subsequent control of the corporation. However, not a single promise was fulfilled, leaving the public feeling betrayed.

The mayor added that AAP’s leadership restricted councillors from making independent decisions, causing frustration among them. According to him, corruption within AAP leadership deprived Delhi’s citizens of essential services, while party leaders personally profited. Allegations have emerged that AAP pressured its councillors to collect money monthly and funnel it to party leaders. Those who refused to comply were reportedly harassed. This led to several councillors resigning and forming a new political outfit.

Mayor Singh also criticized AAP for failing to build any new parks or schools during its tenure. He claimed that ongoing projects were initiated by the previous BJP-led administration and only inaugurated by AAP leaders. “Those who once called themselves common men now roam in luxury cars and live in lavish houses,” he said.

He further alleged that despite having three different mayors, AAP failed to effectively run the House or carry out any development work. Funds meant for councillors to improve neighborhoods and public amenities were withheld—most notably, Rs 500 crore was allegedly kept in the account of the AAP mayor, stalling all developmental work.

Today, by breaking away from AAP, the councillors have exposed the truth, shocking Delhi residents with revelations about how the party’s top leadership deteriorated the Municipal Corporation. Under AAP’s orders, the formation of the Standing Committee and Ward Committees was obstructed and entangled in legal battles, resulting in major governance delays that harmed the public.

Mayor Singh concluded by stating that the damage AAP has done during its rule in the corporation is beyond redemption and that the people of Delhi will never again accept AAP in any form.
