Collector tightens his belt to stop child marriage on Akshaya Tritiya: Flying squads formed from village to block level in Gwalior

Bureau Chief Pavan Paruthi - Gwalior

The district administration has become alert to prevent the possibility of child marriage in mass and single marriage ceremonies to be held on Akshaya Tritiya and other auspicious occasions. On the instructions of Collector Mrs. Ruchika Chauhan, special "Child Marriage Stop Flying Squads" have been formed in the district from block to village level.

These squads have been formed under the Child Marriage Prohibition Act 2006, whose main objective is to spread awareness as well as take immediate legal action in case of any child marriage. The Collector has directed the concerned officers and employees to seriously follow the responsibilities assigned to them.

Structure of the team:

The flying squad formed at the block level includes Sub-Divisional Officer (Revenue and Police), Tehsildar, Child Development Project Officer and Sector Supervisor.

At the same time, at the village level, the principals of schools, headmasters, Gram Panchayat representatives, Anganwadi and Asha workers, self-help groups and Members of Shaurya Dal and concerned police beat incharges have been included.

All these teams will coordinate with each other and keep an eye on marriage ceremonies and will take immediate action on any information of child marriage and submit a report to the District Program Officer, Women and Child Development.

The purpose of this activism of the administration is not only to enforce the law, but also to free the society from the evil practice of child marriage.
