Congress staged a massive protest today over Gwalior's electricity problems

In Gwalior city, hundreds of Congressmen and people of Gwalior assembly, led by Sunil Sharma, took out a huge procession from Inderganj Square to Roshni Ghar to protest against the unannounced electricity cuts, arbitrary electricity bills, heavy hike in electricity rates, cutting of electricity connections of the poor and installing smart meters. They surrounded the electricity department office and handed over a memorandum addressed to the General Manager to the electricity department officials and surrounded the officials over the arbitrariness of the electricity department and the injustice being done to the poor.

Congress General Secretary Sunil Sharma warned the officials and said that the electricity department is collecting bills from only the poor in all the electricity houses of Gwalior. The poor who have bills of two-three-four thousand rupees are being cut by taking their bills to the area under pressure, which the Congress will not tolerate. When the Congress party was in power, BJP leaders used to talk about reconnecting the connections when they were cut, but today in their own state, the connections of the poor are being cut the most. The public will not tolerate their double character. He said that the poor and the middle class are already suffering from inflation and to break their back, the BJP government has also brought smart meters. The Congress party will oppose smart meters. He said that the summer has not even started yet and the power cuts have troubled the public.

 Just yesterday, the power went off several times during the day in the area. How long will the electricity department fool the public in the name of maintenance? Taking a dig at the corruption in the electricity department, he said that friends from ward 13 have come with me. They have taken the house in 2022 but their bill has come from 2021. He said that similar irregularities are going on in the electricity department. A friend from ward 31 said that I pay the bill every month but this month I have suddenly got a bill of Rs 70,000. The woman power from ward 11 told the officials that my husband has been ill for 2 months due to which he could not go to work, due to which my bill has become two and a half thousand, but the electricity employees have threatened me several times at my house to cut the connection. They have asked the officials for some time to pay the bill. Sunil Sharma said that this kind of unruly behavior of the electricity department will not be tolerated at all. If the electricity department does not resolve the problems at the earliest, then the Congress will bring down the government and keep on organizing public movement.
