The 19-month-long Emergency is proof of Congress’ cruelty and dictatorship – Virendra Sachdeva

New Delhi, March 21 : Delhi BJP President Shri Virendra Sachdeva addressed the emergency detainees of 1975-77 at the Loktantra Vijay Diwas event organized at the NDMC Convention Centre on the occasion of March 21, marking the end of the Emergency in 1977. He hailed them as true patriots.

The event, organized by the Loktantra Senani Association, was attended by former Union Minister Shri Ashwini Choubey, National President of the Loktantra Senani Sangh Shri Kailash Soni, Shri Satyanarayan Jatiya, Shri O.P. Babbar, Shri Subhash Arya, Shri Rajiv Babbar, Shri Rajan Dhingra, and many others. Shri Virendra Sachdeva honored all the emergency detainees who had gathered in Delhi from across the country.

Shri Virendra Sachdeva emphasized that to understand democracy, one must first understand those who opposed the Emergency.

Addressing the emergency detainees present at the event, he said that March 21 marks the day when the Emergency was lifted, making it a day of victory for democracy. He reminded everyone how Congress’ ruthless rulers crushed democracy on June 25, 1975. Many of those who fought against the Emergency endured torture, spent 19 months in jail, and some even sacrificed their lives—it is upon their sacrifices that Indian democracy stands today.

Shri Virendra Sachdeva further stated that honoring all those who witnessed and suffered during the Emergency is a privilege for Delhi.

He urged the youth of today to understand how democracy was repeatedly attacked during Congress rule. The 19-month-long Emergency was a testament to Congress’ cruelty and dictatorship.

The Delhi BJP President expressed his sympathy towards all the emergency  detainees and their families who endured hardships during that time.

He also highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has strengthened India’s democratic voice worldwide, ensuring that the people’s voice remains the true strength of Indian democracy.

Shri Virendra Sachdeva concluded by stating that Delhi is honored to welcome democracy fighters from different states. He assured that the Delhi government will do whatever is necessary for them, though no government can truly increase the honor of such great individuals—rather, by serving them, the government only honors itself.

Finally, he emphasized the need to learn from these democracy fighters and work towards building a society where India can become a developed nation by 2047.
