GMC Datia and IMA Datia organized HIV awareness program on World AIDS Day

On the occasion of World AIDS Day, an HIV awareness program was organized under the joint aegis of Government Medical College (GMC) Datia and Indian Medical Association (IMA) Datia. The main objective of this program was to increase awareness about HIV / AIDS in the society and highlight the measures to prevent infection.

In the program, IMA President Dr. Prashant Harit, Head of the Department of Dermatology, gave detailed information on the causes, symptoms and treatment of HIV infection. He shared the necessary measures to dispel the misconceptions related to AIDS and prevent it.

On this occasion, IMA Vice President and Head of the Department of Medicine, Dr. Praveen Tagore also guided the program. He emphasized the role of the medical sector and the need for community awareness to prevent HIV / AIDS. He told that HIV infection can be controlled with regular testing and early treatment.

IMA Secretary Dr. KP Barethia, Medical College Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Arjun Singh, and Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr. Sachin Singh Yadav discussed the social and medical aspects related to AIDS. They said that it is the responsibility of the society to sympathize with HIV infected persons and provide them proper treatment.

GMC Datia Dean Dr. Deepak Marawi thanked the organizers and all the doctors, department heads, and students present for the successful organization of this program. He said, “Such events are very much needed to increase awareness about HIV/AIDS and eradicate it from its roots.”

Experts' suggestions to prevent HIV

During the program, experts appealed to adopt the following measures to avoid AIDS:

1. Safe sex: Use condoms regularly and be loyal to your partner.

2. Clean blood transfusion: Use only certified and tested blood.

3. Careful use of needles and syringes: Use only single-use syringes and needles.

4. HIV testing: Regular testing and timely diagnosis is extremely important.

5. Precautions in pregnancy: HIV-infected pregnant women can protect their child from infection with treatment.

6. Education and awareness: Run awareness campaigns at the community level.

Active participation of students and department heads

The heads of all clinical departments of GMC Datia and intern students of the 2019 batch of the medical college were present in the program. The intern students informed the people through poster exhibition, slogan writing, and street plays to increase awareness.

Pledge of collective effort

At the end of the program, everyone pledged that collective efforts will continue to prevent HIV/AIDS and spread awareness.

“Fight HIV/AIDS, do not discriminate. Be aware, stay safe.”
