LAUNCHING OF EMBLEMS OF FINGER PRINT BUREAU AND BOMB DISPOSAL SQUAD OF CRIME BRANCH, DELHI POLICE

Shri Sanjay Arora, Commissioner of Police , Delhi in the presence of Senior Delhi Police officials in an event held today (19.06.2025) at Police Headquarters, Delhi Police, unveiled the official emblems of its Finger Print Bureau (FPB) and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), marking a significant step in acknowledging and honoring the elite units’ crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of the National Capital of Delhi. These emblems will be proudly displayed by these units and staff on their jackets and official correspondence etc.

Delhi Police have various specialized forensic crime investigation assistance units and two of them viz. Finger Print Bureau (FPB) of Delhi Police and Bomb Disposal Squad are important units and backbone of the police force of Delhi. Finger Print Bureau is a specialized forensic unit that plays a crucial role in solving crimes by analyzing fingerprints. Established in 1983, it functions under the Delhi Police Crime Branch and maintains a database of more than five lakh criminals of the National Capital of Delhi, as of now the Bureau utilizes various techniques, including powder and ultraviolet light, to lift and compare fingerprints found at crime scenes with its database. The Finger Print Bureau is utilizing modern application/software like AFPIS, NAFIS and CRIS systems. These applications are very much useful for police personnel for linking the crimes with criminals. Since the launching of National level system application i.e. NAFIS by Hon’ble Union Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah in September, 2022, the chance prints lifted from crime scenes are identified through this system, leading to arrest of number of criminals.

Similarly, the Bomb Disposal Squad plays a vital role in responding to bomb threats, suspicious objects, and handling explosive devices in crowded and sensitive areas of Delhi. The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and Bomb Detection Team (BDT) of Delhi Police were established in the year 2002 and since then, they are responsible for countering bomb threats and ensuring public safety from explosive devices. With increasing challenges in urban security, the squad’s preparedness and professionalism continues to safeguard countless lives. These teams remain vigilant on 24x7 basis to check and sanitize the important markets, Malls, vital installations and also carry out AS-Check of Venue to be visited by VIPs/VVIPs. All BDS as BDTs are stationed strategically to minimize their response time. These teams are equipped with the latest State of Art security equipment’s to carry out their operations effectively and safely. These Teams undergo professional Training regularly with NSG, BSF, CRPF & DPA, to upgrade the knowledge and working of these Teams. These teams are trained to detect and identify explosive devices using various equipment, including metal detectors, vapor detectors, and sniffer dogs from the Dog Squad. BDTs are the first responders at any suspected bomb site, conducting Anti-Sabotage Checks (AS-Checks) and sanitising the area/place of function.

            They are elite units of Delhi Police and have remained instrumental of solving number of crimes and arrest of criminals and ensuring the public safety.
