India attained independence in 1947, but it still had to fight for its integrity, and leading that battle was none other than Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee – Rekha Gupta

If one wants to understand nationalism, national policy, Indian politics, or Indian culture, they must study the life of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee – Virendra Sachdeva

New Delhi, 23 June:
On the death anniversary of Jana Sangh founder and former Union Minister Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee, who sacrificed his life to keep Kashmir an integral part of India, BJP leaders and workers today paid floral tributes at his statue at an memorial meet Presided by Delhi BJP President Mr. Virendra Sachdeva.

Union Minister Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan, in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Mrs. Rekha Gupta and Assembly Speaker Mr. Vijender Gupta, offered the first floral tribute and shared inspiring stories from Dr. Mukherjee’s life. After the event, he also participated in a tree plantation drive.

Mrs. Rekha Gupta and Mr. Virendra Sachdeva also addressed the memorial gathering.

Slogans like “Jahan balidan hue Mookerjee, woh Kashmir hamara hai” (The Kashmir where Mukherjee sacrificed his life is ours) were raised by a large number of party leaders and workers. Prominent among them were -
Organization General Secretary Mr. Pawan Rana, Senior Worker Mr. Moolchand Chawla, MP Mr. Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Mr. Yogendra Chandolia, Ms. Bansuri Swaraj, Delhi Ministers Mr. Pravesh Sahib Singh and Dr. Pankaj Singh, Delhi Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh, State General Secretary Mr. Vishnu Mittal, Former MP Mr. Ramesh Bidhuri, Dy. Speaker Mr. Mohan Singh Bisht, Pradesh Officebearers Mrs. Yogita Singh, Mr. Praveen Shankar Kapoor, Mr. Vinay Rawat, Mr. Vinod Bacheti, Mr. Naresh Airan, Mrs. Sunita Kangra apart from several party MLAs, Councilors etc.

Union Minister Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan said that for BJP and Jana Sangh workers, Dr. Mukherjee is not merely a person or a leader but a living ideology. 72 years ago, he entered Jammu and Kashmir opposing the concept of “two systems in one country,” which made history. His sacrifice was honored when Prime Minister Narendra Modi abrogated Article 370 in 2019.

Mr. Pradhan noted that post-independence, the country had diverse ideological groups—communalists, communists, and nationalists—and Dr. Mukherjee, often disagreeing with Nehru’s policies, chose to resign from the cabinet. This critical moment led him to join hands with RSS and establish an alternative political ideology in the form of Jana Sangh.

Nehru reportedly once said, “I will crush you,” to which Dr. Mukherjee replied, “I will crush this crushing mentality.”

He emphasized that India is now close to being free from Naxalism, confined to just a few districts. In the last ten years, Prime Minister Modi has steadfastly ensured national security and sovereignty. The foundation of this governance is rooted in Dr. Mukherjee’s ideas.

Dr. Mukherjee offered original and alternative views on education, language, small industries, national security, foreign policy, and the Constitution. Today, the essence of governance is reaching the last person in society, inspired by the philosophy of Integral Humanism by Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya. Together, Dr. Mukherjee and Pandit Upadhyaya are considered the two wheels of the party, which has now completed 11 years of governance focused on service and welfare.

India has now carved a new identity based on Indian values and has emerged as the world’s fourth-largest economy. Governance is no longer for consumption, but based on Indian values, it’s a medium of service.

Delhi BJP President Mr. Virendra Sachdeva said that to understand nationalism, national policy, Indian politics, or culture, one must read the life of Dr. Mukherjee. He was a profound thinker, fearless leader, and true patriot – the first martyred leader of independent India.

Mr. Sachdeva said Dr. Mukherjee raised his voice against the then government’s policy of “two constitutions in one country,” and the circumstances of his death have always raised suspicion.

He added that after his death, Dr. Mukherjee’s mother wrote a letter to then-Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, expressing that she wanted not a justification but an inquiry into her son’s death, as he was arrested and sent to a state with no constitutional authority, denied proper treatment, and died in unjust conditions. She directly blamed the government for his death.

Dr. Mukherjee’s dreams have been realized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who gave him a true tribute by abrogating Article 370.

Chief Minister Mrs. Rekha Gupta said that the leader whose statue we gather before today began the fight for national unity and integrity. Though India became independent in 1947, the battle for unity continued, and Dr. Mukherjee led it. He declared that “two constitutions in one country” was unacceptable and asserted Kashmir belongs entirely to India. Unfortunately, past governments only divided the nation, giving birth to Pakistan and later Bangladesh.

She emphasized that Dr. Mukherjee was the only one to resign from a ministerial post for the cause of national integrity. At a time when one needed permission to enter Kashmir, Dr. Mukherjee went without it to assert that Kashmir is fully a part of India.

She said it’s unfortunate that his death remains suspicious, and Prime Minister Modi is the only one who has truly honored his sacrifice by removing Article 370 from Kashmir.

As Delhi’s Chief Minister, I believe it’s our duty to spread Dr. Mukherjee’s message of “Nation First” to every citizen.
