In a major breakthrough, the Southern Range of the Crime Branch, Delhi Police, has successfully apprehended a notorious absconder, Suraj @ Michael who had been on the run for the past five years. Suraj was declared a Proclaimed Offender (PO) in a MCOCA case registered at Police Station Ambedkar Nagar in 2020.
Suraj, aged 32, a resident of Madangir, South Delhi, is a known member of the notorious ‘Thak-Thak’ gang, active across Delhi and adjoining areas. He has a long criminal history and is involved in approximately 30 cases, including robbery, burglary, motor vehicle theft, and possession of illegal arms.
Background of the Case
In 2020, FIR No. 589/2020 was registered at PS Ambedkar
Nagar under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against gang leader P. Silva and his associates, including Suraj. The gang was found to be engaged in well-organized criminal activities, such as theft, snatching, and armed robbery, aimed at obtaining pecuniary benefits. Their disregard for law and syndicate-style functioning prompted the invoking of MCOCA provisions. While other members were apprehended during the investigation, Suraj evaded arrest and was declared a Proclaimed Offender in December 2024.
Operation and Arrest A dedicated team led by Inspector Ajit Kumar, including SI Sudhir Yadav, ASI Vijender, ASI Sandeep, and HC Sumer, and supervised by ACP Girish Kaushik, was formed to trace Suraj.
The team developed intelligence to narrow down Suraj’s location. After continuous monitoring and analysis of multiple leads, the suspect’s movements were tracked to the Inderpuri area of Delhi. On 19 June 2025, the team successfully apprehended the fugitive during a targeted operation.
Interrogation and Disclosures
During interrogation, Suraj admitted to being a long-time associate of P. Silva and an active member of the Thak-Thak gang since 2013. Despite suffering a serious road accident nearly a decade ago, he remained involved in criminal activities and was incarcerated multiple times. He revealed that he originally lived in Ambedkar Nagar but later shifted to Inderpuri to avoid detection and continued his illegal activities while in hiding.
