A DESPERATE FUGITIVE CRIMINAL APPREHENDED BY NDR/CRIME BRANCH AFTER ABSCONDING FOR 07 YEARS

INTRODUCTION
The NDR/Crime Branch, RK Puram has successfully traced and apprehended a Bail jumper Amit @ Rahul @ Vijay @ Jatin Batra r/o Dakshinpuri, Delhi, who was convicted in a sensational robbery case with a Petrol Pump owner of Delhi Cantt of the year 2001. His appeal was also dismissed by the Hon’ble Delhi High Court in 2017, but instead of surrendering before jail authorities, he had absconded and remained involved in a series of crimes. He changed his identities multiple times to hoodwink the govt. agencies.   
 
HISTORY OF THE CASE
On February 6th, 2001 at about 10 pm, a sensational incident of armed robbery took place in Delhi Cantt. area, when four assailants had robbed away cash Rs. 4 lakhs, important documents and bank pass book etc. on gun point from a Petrol Pump owner near Kirbi Place, while he was returning home after closing the petrol pump. On this, a case of robbery was registered at PS Delhi Cantt. and four accused persons of Ajay Chhotu gang of South Delhi including the accused Amit @ Rahul @ Vijay @ Jatin Batra were arrested in the case. 
After completion of trial, on 28th September, 2002, the Hon’ble Court found all the four accused persons guilty and convicted them with the sentence for 07 years of imprisonment. 
The accused Amit @ Rahul @ Vijay @ Jatin Batra had filed an appeal against his sentence before the Hon’ble Delhi High and got bail till the hearing of his appeal. Thereafter, on 26th April, 2017, the Hon’ble High Court of Delhi also dismissed his appeal with the directions to surrender him before the trial court, but accused Amit @ Rahul @ Vijay @ Jatin Batra did not comply with the orders of Hon’ble High Court and absconded. 
 
INFORMATION & TEAM OPERATION
In a drive initiated by the Crime Branch against the fugitive criminals, who had absconded after getting bail/parole and could not be arrested despite best efforts, a special team of Crime Branch led by Insp. Rakesh Kumar comprising of SI Anuj Kumar, SI Amit Grewal, ASI Vikas, and HCs Ravinder, Dinesh, Bhag Singh, Rahul, Kamal Kumar, Nahanji, Satyawan and Sukhbir was formed under the supervision ACP Umesh Bharthwal to track and arrest the fugitives.
 
After extensive manual surveillance in Hari Nagar, Tilak Nagar & Rohini areas of Delhi as well as technical assistance by ASI Vikas and HC Rahul, the Crime Branch team uncovered information that the accused was residing in Hari Nagar area.
 
Eventually, a secret tip-off confirmed that the accused was indeed residing in Hari Nagar area and is a food enthusiast, who frequently visits a famous food stall in Tilak Nagar. Acting on this intelligence, the Crime Branch team laid traps in Tilak Nagar market and the fugitive was successfully apprehended  and was handed over to the jail authorities.
 
INTERROGATION
The accused Amit @ Rahul is an absent Bad Character of PS Ambedkar Nagar, Delhi, hiding since 2017. During interrogation, he disclosed that he was a permanent resident of Dakshin Puri, Delhi. He remained an active member of notorious Ajay Chhotu gang from 1999 to 2013 and executed a series of serious crimes along with gang members. In 2001, he along with his three other associates including Ajay Chhotu executed a planned armed robbery at Kirbi Place with a Petrol Pump owner.  He further disclosed that after getting bail from Hon’ble High Court in Delhi Cantt. case, he continued his criminal activities and remained involved in a series of cases of Robbery, Snatching and Thefts etc. along with his associates. He has a total of 36 previous involvements. 
 
The operation of Crime Branch against fugitive criminals continues.
