Commission to Take All Necessary Steps to Improve Education Standards: Pyare Khan

Nagpur | Awes Siddiqui |
The Maharashtra State Minority Commission will soon submit a proposal to the state government to convert all Urdu-medium schools into semi-English institutions. Additionally, the commission will advocate for making Marathi language education mandatory in these schools.
State Minority Commission Chairman Pyare Zia Khan recently conducted a meeting with intellectuals from the minority community, education representatives, lawyers, and Urdu school teachers to discuss the future of Urdu schools and the challenges they currently face.

Concerns Over the Declining Quality of Education in Urdu Schools

During the meeting, serious concerns were raised regarding the deteriorating academic standards in many Urdu-medium schools. Experts and educationists expressed their worries over the declining quality of education, emphasizing that many students in these schools struggle to even write their names correctly—a matter of grave concern. Compared to other schools, students from Urdu-medium institutions lag behind in competitive exams.
To address these issues, the commission has proposed:

Converting all Urdu-medium schools into semi-English institutions starting from Grade 1.

Making Marathi language compulsory in Urdu schools.

Mandating Marathi as a second language in SSC board exams.

Teaching Mathematics and Science in English.

Introducing IT (Information Technology) education from primary to higher secondary levels.

Preparing students for competitive exams from secondary school onwards.

Improving school infrastructure.

Providing computers in all schools and appointing computer teachers.

Training Urdu-medium teachers in modern teaching methodologies.

Chairman’s Statement

Chairman Pyare Khan stated,
"The condition of 90% of Urdu schools is extremely poor. Many students are unable to write their own names correctly. Additionally, several Urdu schools have hired teachers using fake degrees, and other irregularities are causing significant harm to the education of minority students."
He further emphasized that bold decisions must be made for the bright future of students from minority communities. He urged everyone to be prepared for these changes and extend their full cooperation.
