Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin Saheb, the 53rd religious leader of the Dawoodi Bohra community spread across the world, inaugurated this year's major annual event 'Ashra Mubaraka' from Saifee Mosque in Chennai. In his first day's address, he recalled the discourses given by his father, late Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin Saheb in Chennai 50 years ago and mentioned old memories and emotional ties associated with this city.

Syedna told how in the past many Bohra families came to Chennai from Sidhpur in Gujarat and settled here and progressed. In his address, he also announced the main theme of this year's discourses - 'Universe and Faith'. He said that this time every day he will talk about the stars, planets, and the wonderful creation of the universe and will connect it with life and faith.

He also said that just as the stars show the way in the darkness of night, similarly some great people in history have also been guiding humanity. Highlighting the relationship between religion and science, he said that both help in understanding each other better and explaining the world.

Syedna described love as the greatest power and said that only with true love does a person move towards service, kindness and brotherhood. He praised the local Bohra community of Chennai and said that the people here have set an example of humanity by uniting with all religions and castes.

In the last part of the program, Syedna remembered the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain and the historical event of Karbala, which the community remembers every year. He said that this remembrance reminds us of the values ??of mutual sympathy, love and unity.

This year's event in Chennai is being attended by around 43,000 people, of which 8,000 are local residents and around 35,000 are from India and abroad. The main event is being held at the Saifee Mosque and is also being broadcast live at nine other locations in the city, including Wings Convention Centre, YMCA Ground and Binny Ground. The event is also being seen in several cities in South India such as Coimbatore, Erode, Salem and various parts of central India.

Ashra Mubaraka is celebrated from the 2nd to the 10th of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar. This period is celebrated with great reverence and sensitivity in the memory of Prophet Muhammad and his grandson Imam Hussain. During this time, people of the Bohra community from all over the world gather together to listen to sermons in the morning and evening.

These sermons discuss the teachings of the Quran, history and social values, which are also relevant to today's life. This program not only empowers the community spiritually but also inspires them to become better human beings.
