New Delhi, June 28:
To mark 50 years since the imposition of the Emergency by Congress, the Delhi BJP Mahila Morcha today organized a Mock Parliament at Maharashtra Sadan, addressed by Delhi’s Chief Minister Mrs. Rekha Gupta and BJP MP Ms. Bansuri Swaraj.

Held in the presence of Mrs. Richa Pandey Mishra, President of the Delhi BJP Mahila Morcha, the session witnessed the participation of hundreds of women including Morcha General Secretary Mrs. Priyal Bhardwaj, Mrs. Sarita Tomar, and Ms. Vaishali Poddar.

In her inaugural address, Mrs. Richa Pandey Mishra remembered the Emergency as a “Black Day” and stated that it is hypocritical for Congress, which once trampled on the Constitution and democracy, to now talk about its protection.

Mrs. Rekha Gupta said the Mock Parliament is itself an example of women empowerment. She recounted that during the Congress regime, anyone who dared to speak against the government was jailed without trial or legal recourse, and the whole country was turned into a prison through fear and repression.

She added that lists were pre-prepared of those likely to speak out in the nation’s interest, and thousands were jailed overnight. Newspapers were banned, media houses were locked down, and all of this was carried out under Mrs. Indira Gandhi’s orders. Even national icons like Manoj Kumar were banned, and a forced sterilization campaign created an atmosphere of terror.

Mrs. Rekha Gupta emphasized that understanding why the Emergency is called a “black chapter” is crucial—so that such a day is never repeated and no such threat ever returns to India. It must be remembered regularly to prevent recurrence.

She said everyone must understand the role of power, government, and administration, and that a working government’s duty is to take decisions in the public interest.

Highlighting the significance of the 33% reservation for women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies brought by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, she called it a significant step toward women’s empowerment. She contrasted it with the Emergency, calling it a selfish move just to hold on to power. She added that PM Modi is not just a capable leader but also someone who cares for citizens’ health and ensures no one in the country sleeps hungry.

Ms. Bansuri Swaraj remarked that the Congress regime was responsible for killing laws, the Constitution, and democracy itself—amending the Constitution at will and jailing anyone who spoke in the national interest, just to suppress dissent.

She noted that at a time when the country was grappling with hunger, unemployment, and discontent, Indira Gandhi, driven solely by her hunger for power, announced the imposition of Emergency on the night of June 25 over the radio. She described the decision as one that trampled democracy, disregarded the Constitution, and suffocated citizens’ rights.

She said the effects of PM Modi’s 33% reservation will be visible in the next Lok Sabha, as this is the last one with low female representation. In the future, women’s voices in Parliament will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with men.
