Gwalior. Two-day Asmita Rugby League was inaugurated in the university's football ground under the joint aegis of Rugby Football Association Gwalior and Jiwaji University.

Chief Guest of the program was Vice Chancellor Professor Avinash Tiwari. District Rugby Football Association President Dr. Keshav Pandey presided over the function. While Executive Council members Pradeep Sharma and Saurabh Sharma were special guests.

Vice Chancellor flagged off the league and encouraged the participants by shaking hands with them and introducing himself to them.

Secretary of Madhya Pradesh Rugby Football Association Abrar Ahmed Sheikh said that this league is being organized in 10 cities of India by 'SAI Sports Authority of India'. Gwalior is also included in these.

Chief Guest Prof. Avinash Tiwari said that players should always play with sportsmanship. Sportsmanship promotes teamwork and cooperation and also increases self-respect and confidence. Sportsmanship earns the trust and respect of others.

Dr. Keshav Pandey said that sportsmanship means that we should show our skills in any game and should not worry about winning or losing. Rugby League is a big gift for Gwalior. He called upon the players to become like Sachin, Virat, Dhoni and Milkha Singh. The program was conducted by Bhupendra Kant and Pradeep Sharma expressed gratitude.

During this, Rugby India Tournament Manager Vikas Chaurasia, Operation Manager Shatrujeet Dalai, SAI Senior Coach Sharmila Tejawat, Assistant Coach Priyanka Awasthi, Senior Cricket Coach Arun Kumar Singh, Madhya Pradesh Rugby Technical Director Sandeep Jadhav, Dr. SP Srivastava, Vice President Dr. Aditya Bhadoria, Varsha Sharma, Kedarnath Goyal and Rajesh Singh Kushwaha were prominently present.

On the first day of the competition, matches were played between junior and sub-junior teams. There are three categories in the league, senior, junior and sub-junior. 12 teams each of senior and junior and 21 teams of sub-junior are participating in it. The three winning teams will be awarded cash prizes of 50 thousand, 30 thousand and 20 thousand rupees.
