Delhi Police Crime Branch launched a month-long Nasha Mukt Delhi Pilot Project and action will be taken against sale of tobacco near schools.

A review meeting of the 9th State Level Committee of NCORD was held on 26th November 2024 at Raj Niwas, Delhi under the chairmanship of Hon'ble LG, Delhi. Concluding the meeting, Hon'ble Lt Governor emphasized the importance of concerted efforts to realize the vision of "Nasha Mukt Delhi" within three years and directed to start a "one-month comprehensive campaign as a pilot project" from 1st December 2024.

This initiative is seen as a significant step towards making Delhi free from drug-related problems. As part of a month-long pilot project for "Drug-Free Delhi", the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Crime Branch conducted special drives from 1 December 2024 in Central, New Delhi, Shahdara, West, South, North and South-East districts to enforce the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA). During the special drive, 74 vendors and paan shop owners illegally selling cigarettes and tobacco products near educational institutions were identified and penalized. Also, 04 shelter homes were inspected. Legal action was taken to protect students and promote a healthy, tobacco-free environment around schools. Delhi Police remains committed to ensuring the well-being of students and strict compliance of COTPA rules.

Save youth and children from the menace of drug addiction. Although the focus is on taking strict action on the supply side (drug traffickers), an appeal has also been made to all sections of society to create awareness and reduce the demand for drugs. Parents, family members and teachers are especially urged to identify the symptoms of drug abuse in children and take extraordinary measures to address the issue with a focus on reducing the demand. Everyone must make the youth aware of the grave consequences of drug addiction and prevent them from falling prey to this deadly evil. As per the directions of the Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, citizens are urged to support the fight against drug trafficking.

Bhisham Singh Deputy Commissioner, Crime Branch: Delhi informed Bureau Chief Vijay Gaur that those providing valuable assistance will be suitably rewarded with cash, and their identities will be kept strictly confidential.
